Vermont Archaeology Student Research Grants

Exciting news! The Vermont Archaeological Society (VAS) is thrilled to offer the Vermont Archaeology Research Grant Program. This competitive grant initiative is designed to empower undergraduate and graduate students pursuing archaeological research in Vermont. We are offering awards of up to $1,000 to encourage and support their endeavors.

This year’s grant will be awarded in early 2025, and our winners will have until early 2026 to complete their research. They will then share their findings through publication in our Newsletter and by presenting at least one public talk to the VAS membership.

Help Support the Grant Program

This endeavor holds tremendous promise for the future of archaeology in Vermont, but we need your assistance to make it a reality. The VAS currently lacks a consistent source of funding to sustain this grant beyond 2025. Your donation can make a difference!

VAS Board member Kathy Nolan had generously pledged to contribute half of the funds for the 2023-2024 cycle. Kathy understood the challenges faced by archaeological students who struggle to secure the resources needed for their studies. She herself had to abandon her doctoral program years ago due to insufficient funding, and now she wants to ensure that current students don’t have to face the same dilemma.

We invite you to join Kathy in supporting this crucial initiative by donating to our grant fund. No contribution is too small—whether it’s $5, $10, $25, $50, $100, or more, every dollar counts. Your support will make a significant difference in the lives of aspiring archaeologists, allowing them to explore Vermont’s rich archaeological heritage.

Your generosity will help us provide opportunities and resources to students who are passionate about uncovering Vermont’s archaeological mysteries. We deeply appreciate your support, and we ask you to consider making a donation today by clicking the button below:

Alternatively, you can mail a check to VAS at PO Box 542, Hinesburg, VT 05461, with “Grant Fund Donation” specified in the memo line if you wish to restrict your donation to grants only.

Let’s come together as a community to nurture the next generation of Vermont archaeologists. Your support will ensure that these dedicated students have the resources they need to continue their vital work. Thank you for your generosity and commitment to preserving Vermont’s incredible archaeological heritage.
